The Future of Public Transport: Dubai’s New Bus Routes

by Eisha

Starting from August 30, 2024, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority will initiate four new metro link bus routes as part of its continuous efforts toward increasing connectivity and expanding the bus network across the Emirate. These strategic changes have been designed to improve public transportation, making it more efficient and accessible to residents and visitors alike.

Introducing New Metro Link Bus Routes

Latest development by RTA includes adding a total of four routes to the metro link bus network to make the commute easy, reaching out to larger areas. Following are the details of changes the route maps would face:

  1. Route F39: This will be a new route, replacing old Route 31, running between Etisalat Bus Station and Oud Al Muteena Roundabout Bus Stop 1, with a 30-minute frequency. The new Route F39 will enhance access to this key region by making travel more convenient.
  2. Route F40: This too will substitute partly the Route 31 service and will operate between Etisalat Bus Station-Mirdif Street 78. Similar to F39, this too will have a 30-minute frequency to provide easy access to the metro.
  3. Route F58: It would replace Route F56, running from Al Khail Metro Station to Dubai Internet City and vice versa. This could be counted as an improvement in the travel of people moving between these two major business and technological hubs; the buses move within every 30 minutes.
  4. Route F59: the new Route F59 will substitute the current Route F56, linking Dubai Internet City Metro Station with Dubai Knowledge Village. This route has been programmed in order to give a better service to the Knowledge Village area-a place of very high importance for lots of educational and professional activities-and to guarantee good journey times for all the visitants that travel to this part of town.

Improvements in Currently Operating Routes
In addition to these new routes, RTA will make a number of very important adjustments to the existing bus services with a view to further optimizing the public transport network:

  1. Route 21 shall be divided into two separate routes, 21A and 21B. The 21A would ply from Al Quoz Clinical Pathology Services Bus Stop 1 to Al Ghubaiba Bus Station. Route 21B covers the trip in the reverse direction. This has been reached in order to make route identification simpler and offer an enhanced cover to Al Quoz and Al Ghubaiba areas.
  2. Route 61D: Route 61D will be integrated into Route 66 to rationalize the service in order to minimize duplication of routes, hence making the routes more utilitarian for the commuters.
  3. Route 95: The route will be integrated into Route 95A so as to make it easy to link with Route X92. Route 95A will start from Veneto, Jebel Ali Waterfront, and proceed to Parco Hypermarket, passing through Jebel Ali Industrial Area.
  4. Route 6: This route will be shortened to operate from Oud Metha Metro Station to Dubai Healthcare City with the cancelation of its current sector.
  5. Route 99: The rerouting of Route 99 will cover the area of JAFZA One, enabling the expansion of access to this important business hub.
  6. Route F31: Additional stops will be provided on Route F31 in The Greens, extending coverage and improving the quality of services.
  7. Route F45: On the route F45, more stops are going to be added on Al Furjan, while one will be canceled on the route of F54, namely JAFZA One.
  8. Route E700: The intercity route is going to start from Etisalat Bus Station instead of Union Bus Station. All this will provide people with easy access toward Fujairah.

The Impact of These Changes

It is a fact that new metro link bus routes along with the improvement in the services already running are a keen interest of Dubai RTA authority for public transportation. Such developments in the services are likely to:

RTA is planning to increase the level of connectivity between prime areas and major business districts by adding new routes and modifying routes. This will help in ensuring easy access to any popular destination and important location within the Emirate, both for daily commuters and an occasional traveler.

Extended Network of Buses: The expansion in the network of buses shall be done by adding new routes and realignment of the existing route networks to give better coverage. It will be of great help to those areas that are receiving high population growth and expanding demands for services regarding public transport.

The new stops and increased frequencies will provide better options for travel for the commuters. Changes have been made in a way that will reduce waiting times, thus providing smoother journeys and increasing the overall level of satisfaction with the use of public transport in Dubai.

Conclusion
The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai is not lagging behind in the upgrading of public transport infrastructure within the city upon the introduction of four new metro link bus routes. This enhancement and adjustment in the bus network will contribute significantly to better connectivity, increased service coverage, and an efficient means of commute. It reflects RTA’s commitment to meeting the changing transport needs of its residents and visitors as Dubai grows and develops into a connected and accessible city for all.

It is recommended that passengers go through the new routes for proper journey planning to fully exploit these improvements. This development and streamlining of the network are a testament that RTA is committed to its role of supporting Dubai’s dynamic, thriving urban environment.
