Apple is going to push out iOS 18 this September after a public beta that surprisingly enjoyed unexpected success. The latest edition will be inducted with a number of fresh novelties and changes to further adjust and polish the iPhone experience for users.
New Features of iOS 18
Advanced Apple Intelligence
- AI Integration: With iOS 18 comes Apple Intelligence, a comprehensive suite of AI features that enhances just about every nook and cranny in the OS. To be sure, some of the top-level changes include beefed-up editing and writing aids, better proofing, and text-summarizing tools meant to help writing be a bit more polished and professional. There are also smarter and more contextual interactions with Siri and a whole lot of other small improvements.
- Image Playground: Create or edit images by either prompts or suggestions from Apple, allowing the integration of personal photos into various styles of art : animation and illustration.
- Genmoji: With Messages, you can now create an emoji that self-updates with emoji from a description. Take your messaging up a notch when you make custom emojis, even with your friends or family in it
Fully Customizable Siri
It now understands the contextual understanding and has made Siri super powerful, and it is capable of doing advanced tasks like editing photos or handling files for the user. There’s a new visual for when Siri is active: a glowing ring around the display. This would mean that if Siri doesn’t have anything to answer, then it is immediately pluggable with support via ChatGPT for extra help on that question. More complex questions will then be supported by ChatGPT.
More privacy and security:
- App locking and hiding: Apps must be locked with Face ID or Touch ID. Besides, keep them far away from Search and Notifications. They can be hidden in the App Library that helps protect a group of apps.
- Granular permissions: Specify the apps your contacts can use with you; further privacy controls; set up Bluetooth devices.
Personalized Home Screen and Control Center
- More Widgets on Home Screen: You can now drag app icons widgets around the home screen any way you like. Enjoy an all-new set of dark mode icons with custom tints. It is more personalized because of new layout options.
- Control Center Upgrades: Swipe down and hold for multiple pages of controls. You can customize your Access Control Center with Apple and third-party options and bifurcate the Control Center into dedicated sections of different functionalities.
Messages App Improvements
- New Formatting Options: Now, one can do text effects in texts. Lastly, one has choices to make the text bold, italic, underlined, or even strike-through. Send Later schedules a message to be sent later. One can also react with any emoji or sticker.
- Satellite messaging: Available on the iPhone 14 or later, this feature allows one to send messages anywhere via satellite when there is no cell or Wi-Fi coverage
New Photos App
Unified view: The Photos app brings Library and For You tabs together in one view with all your photos. Organize your photos into meaningful sets with themes—easily accessed—and offer a new carousel way to get into your best shots.
Improved Maps and Directions
Topographic Maps: Get detailed topographic maps and hiking routes, available offline to view your route and know national parks.
Wallet and Payments
Tap to Pay: Send money by tapping your iPhone right next to another iPhone. Now Apple Pay does even more, including loyalty points and installments. Wallet’s redesigned digital tickets include improved venue information and maps.
New Journal Insights
Advanced Tracking: A new Insights view in-app Journal promises more finely-counted stats, with better search options for tracing what you have done and how can you get back to that.
Game Mode
Performance: Game Mode lights up the phone for gaming performance and controller responsiveness, bringing the background activity and the latency of the iPhone to a minimum so that maximum resources possible be directed at your iPhone’s gaming performance
Installation and Compatibility
Release Timing
iOS 18 will officially go live when new iPhone models come out in mid-September. Device Compatibility: iOS 18 will run on any iPhone that was first shipped with the iPhone XS and XR. Some features require the A17 Pro chip that is in iPhone 15 Pro models, or the next generation iPhone 16.
