A Groundbreaking Agreement with Apollo Go
The new agreement between RTA and Apollo Go marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s smart mobility vision. The MoU was signed during an official ceremony attended by H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, alongside Mr. Halton Niu, General Manager of Overseas Business at Baidu’s Intelligent Driving Group.
This partnership will see the initial rollout of 100 self-driving taxis in Dubai by 2025, with a goal to begin offering fully driverless rides to the public by 2026.

Who Is Behind Apollo Go?
Apollo Go is a division of Baidu, a global leader in artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technologies. With a strong presence in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and other major Chinese hubs, Apollo Go has become the most experienced autonomous taxi provider in the world.
To date, Apollo Go has logged over 150 million kilometers of safe autonomous driving and completed 10 million driverless ride-hailing services, making it the largest operator of self-driving taxi fleets worldwide.
Cutting-Edge Technology in Every Vehicle
The self-driving taxis in Dubai will be equipped with state-of-the-art automation technology. Each vehicle is fitted with 40 advanced sensors and detectors, which include LiDAR, cameras, radars, and other safety systems. These features enable the taxis to navigate complex urban environments with precision and reliability.
The cars used in this initiative will be based on Apollo Go’s Robotaxi Generation 6 (RT6), a model purpose-built for autonomous operations. This futuristic vehicle has already received positive feedback from passengers in China for its smooth performance, modern design, and intuitive user experience.
Dubai’s Vision for a Smarter Future
Dubai has long been a global leader when it comes to adopting futuristic infrastructure and technologies. The introduction of self-driving taxis in Dubai is just one of the many projects under the emirate’s Smart Mobility Strategy, which aims to make 25% of all transportation autonomous by 2030.
This trial is a crucial step toward that goal, as it will help test the scalability, safety, and public readiness for driverless mobility solutions across the city.
What to Expect from the Trial
The 2025 pilot program will allow residents and visitors to experience autonomous rides in real-world conditions. The RTA and Apollo Go will work closely to monitor performance, collect feedback, and fine-tune services based on customer experience and traffic behavior.
If successful, this pilot could lead to an expanded fleet and potentially revolutionize the way people commute in Dubai.
Final Thoughts
The arrival of self-driving taxis in Dubai marks an exciting new chapter for the city’s transport evolution. With proven technology, global expertise, and a forward-thinking local authority, Dubai is well on its way to becoming a pioneer in the world of autonomous mobility.
As the emirate gears up for its 2025 launch, residents can look forward to safer, smarter, and more sustainable travel options in the near future.
